Cover picture: [Ca2+]i transients in isolated early embryonic cardiomyocytes. In addition to the large [Ca2+]i transients, smaller, less regular, but spatially confi ned, [Ca2+]i signals are observed in the perinuclear region (color traces/regions); they are absent from the rest of the cell (purple) and nucleus (black). F0 denotes the average resting fl uorescence, ΔF the fluorescence changes during the [Ca2+]i transients (see article by Sasse et al., 133–144).
